The Intersection of Mental Health and Academic Instruction: A Medical Perspective on Optimizing Programming and Physical Space to Maximize Success for Complex Learners

Presenter: Dr. Joel Oberstar, MD

Category: People, Places and Programming

Students with underlying mental health difficulties face barriers to success in the classroom. In this presentation, the biological, psychological and social factors underlying mental health will be explored. Additionally, consideration will be given to ways in which programming and physical space can be optimized to maximize student success, including the deployment of traditionally “clinical” interventions in the educational arena designed to meet the increasingly intense mental health needs of some youth.
